"In 1993, Harpoon pioneered IPA brewing with this New England classic. It began as a summer seasonal and people absolutely loved it. So did we. So we made it a year-round beer, and it's now our bestselling beer and our flagship. A New England-style IPA finds harmony in the combination of hops, malt, and yeast so that no single ingredient dominates the drinking experience. The blend of malt provides depth in body and color, and is balanced by a pleasantly hoppy finish. As the definitive New England-style IPA, Harpoon IPA is a beautifully balanced beer. The citrus and pine of Cascade hops complement a sturdy malt backbone and the floral aromas of our beloved yeast. Brewed in the spirit of fun and sociability, it is wonderfully hoppy but remarkably balanced, and is best enjoyed with friends." —brewer
"Lemony citrus and fresh green grass are the driving forces behind this brew, with a touch of bready malt character adding a bit of depth and richness. It’s medium weight with pronounced carbonation and a lively, easygoing texture. The hops, though certainly there, are not overpowering or dominating." —Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

"Appearance: Vibrant deep golden hue with a fine clarity, densely frothed head sticks just about everywhere.

"Smell: Earthy and citric hop in the nose with a mild maltiness in the back, hops are a mix of Cascade and Cluster.

"Taste: Soft citric hop throughout, bitterness is just above the malt flavours. Some alcohol is there with a warming factor towards the end. Toasted and biscuity flavours from the grain show a stable base of malt. Hop flavour in its softness lingers for a while.

"Mouthfeel: Moderate body, lined crispness with a smooth backing.

"Drinkability & Notes: A highly drinkable bottled ale, seems faintly withdrawn over the years but is still a reliable American IPA." —Jason Alström, BeerAdvocate
