Good fresh, deep red. Superripe, deep aromas of plum, mocha and smoky oak. Very rich, ripe and chewy, with a rare creaminess of texture and terrific depth. Utterly velvety mouth feel. Finishes with huge but lush tannins. A very good showing.Stephen Tanzer.

The 2001 Barolo La Serra opens with a deep, potent nose of sweet dark cherries and cocoa. The most structured of the Voerzio Barolos, it is also the most weighty and concentrated, featuring massive amounts of dark, backward fruit, great length and the more substantial tannins that are typical of the vineyard. Intense aromas of blackberries, minerals and cedar, with hints of cigar box. Full-bodied, with a dense tannin structure and rich palate of fruit and minerals. Tight and condensed. This needs lots of bottle age. Tannic. This is built like a brick house. Very powerful for La Serra. Best after 2008. 400 cases made. –JS
