'The 2006 harvest at Monchhof lasted longer than at many of our estates, a total of four weeks.Harvest began on October 9th and finished on November 6th. Yield for the Pradikat wines was approximately 50 hl/ha, higher on average when compared to yield at other estates in 2006. Robert feels this higher yield is due to conditions being more moderate in Urzig than in other villages along the Mosel. As with many vintners, Robert describes the harvest itself as the most difficult in the past 20 years. An incredible amount of time was invested in both the harvest and the selection process to ensure only the best fruit made it to the press. When discussing the vintage, he feels the character of '06 is totally unique, and he very much enjoys the combination of the racy, but juicy structure coupled with bright, clean fruit. Monchhof Estate Riesling and all Pradikat wines up through TBA were selected. The Urziger Wurzgarten Kabinett was quite impressive, offering incredible value, as it would be a Spatlese in any other vintage. No grapes under 100 Ochsle were selected at the estate in 2006.' - Importer
