"The Kaisersteinfels has an intense aroma of pure Riesling fruit. Vigor is coupled with subtle elegance in this wine. The well-melded fruit acid is buffered by a fine remnant of sweetness, and the result is a highly dynamic taste experience. This Riesling makes an ideal accompaniment to rich cream sauces and green pepper, chicken breast with tarragon, crème fraîche and young peas, glazed breast of duck, Chinese noodle salad with lemon juice, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil and coriander sprigs." —winemaker
"Leitz's 2013 Rudesheimer Berg Kaisersteinfels Riesling Terrassen from a small terrace vineyard above the Berg Schlossberg is classified as 'VDP Grosse Lage' but not allowed – and never meant – to be presented as Grosses Gewächs because it is – analytically – not dry although it tastes dry much as it has every year since 2004. Picked from 70+-year-old vines on stony red slate and quartzite soils the must fermented to 12.5% of alcohol and 11.9 grams of residual sugar and presents itself as a full, juicy, medium-bodied and fruit intense Riesling with a lively acidity and lovely and lingering, salty piquancy. This is a delicate, delicious and already stimulating Riesling that combined the finesse and filigreed structure of a Kabinett with the complexity and intensity of a premier cru." —Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
