|"From the moment you pull the cork the wine is fragrant, bright, and fresh with rich, enticing aromas and flavors of briar fruit jam, black currant, black cherry, sage, herbs, red berries, and vanilla wrapping up with a long, vibrant finish that you'll wish would never end." —winemaker
Wine Anthology review:
Fruit for this 2013 Merlot came from vineyard sites in Yountville and the foothills of Stags Leap District, two of the most highly regarded viticultural areas in America. 2013 provided a super-consistent growing season that allowed winemaker Elias Fernandez to simply stand back and let the fruit determine the best way to go. It's a dark fruit affair all the way, with notes of sweet ripe blueberry and black cherry, doubled up with a suggestion of smoky oak and a hint of pipe tobacco. All in all, this is a terrific, full-throttle Merlot and another decisive knockout from Shafer.
