"The 2013 is of great elegance where the richness of old vine Grenache commands attention. Opaque and dense purple in appearance, the wine brims with spicy blueberry and ripe black currant fruit aromatics. Mighty upon entry, lush red fruits are met with just a hint of creamy, toasty oak. The intensity and concentration of the mid palate leads to a long finish with hints of wild fennel and garrigue." —winemaker

D66 takes its name from the French département system: France is divided into 101 regional departments, the 66th of which is Pyrénées-Orientales, home of Phinney's French vineyards. With a majority of Grenache in the 2013's blend, you get a highly energized ripe red that offers major notes of black cherry and strawberry with a dusting of cocoa powder. If a big, food-friendly red with lots of texture is what you're after, D66 is the one to have at the ready.
"In the same mold as the 2012, the 2013 Cotes Catalanes Grenache D66 is being held for six months in bottle prior to release. Completely destemmed (as are all the wines here) and aged in 30% new barrels, it has elegant, lively notes of blackberry, cassis, plum, pepper and violets to go with a medium to full-bodied, balanced and yet still hedonistic feel on the palate. A slightly tweaked blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Carignan, this is a more civilized version of this cuvee that still won't disappoint with regard to depth, flavor or length.
