"The Crozes Hermitage vineyard is the largest of all the northern Rhône Valley Appellations. It extends over 11 communes situated in the Drôme, on the left bank of the Rhône. The Domaine de Thalabert has belonged to the Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné since 1834. It is situated on the plain, and is the oldest in the Appellation. Deep ruby colour, limpid and bright. Intense, complex, and aromatic nose with a blend of red berries and animal notes. Powerful and fine on the palate; noble tannins; full, well-balanced finish." —winemaker

Wine Anthology review:
Domaine de Thalabert, in the Rhône Valley's renowned Crozes-Hermitage appellation, has been an ace in Jaboulet's hand since the winery's the very beginning in 1834. As one of the first parcels farmed by founder Antoine Jaboulet, this 100-acre property delivers supple, aromatic Syrah with laser-like concentration. 2011 was a breeze of a vintage, with the vineyard's highest yields in years, and it really shows in this earthy, fruit-laden Syrah that features hints of violet and licorice woven in and out.
"The 2011 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert is an outstanding blend of 100% Syrah that spent 12 months in new French oak. Medium-bodied, rich, textured and downright sexy on the palate, it offers up impressive aromas and flavors of blackberry, raspberry, bouquet garni and spice. Approachable and already delicious, it should continue to drink nicely for another decade." —Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

"Vivid purple. Heady aromas of fresh dark berries, violet, woodsmoke and black pepper, with a zesty mineral nuance adding urgency. Juicy, penetrating and lively in the mouth, offering intense black and blue fruit flavors and a touch of floral pastilles. Silky tannins give shape to the long, smooth, appealingly fresh finish." —Josh Raynolds, Vinous
