"Deep cherry colour with shades of shiny red. To the nose, aromas of berries and liquorice balanced by hints of clove, rosemary, thyme and tobacco leaves coming from the oak cask ageing. To the palate, it shows its elegance thanks to a gentle tanin providing roundness and freshness. The wine tastes for long in the palate, with an interestingly complex aftertaste. Game and red meats are ideal pairings for this wine." —winemaker

Blend: 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo

Wine Anthology review:
The Imperial Reserva belongs to Cune's "Imperial" range and is their most affordable wine in this top-tier category – despite the fact that all the grapes come from the same estate vineyards in Villalba and Haro in Rioja Alta! As a reserve wine, it boasts serious time in barrel, to the tune of two years in oak and another two years in bottle before being released to the world. The result is an expressive, rich red that stays light on its feet, mixing notes of toast and espresso into its flavors of tart cherry and plum, with a structure that promises great aging potential.
#56, Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2015

"Smoky and tarry notes give this rich red an austere character, but plum, licorice, soy and mineral notes promise an expressive future. The tannins and acidity are balanced and unobtrusive. Best from 2016 through 2030. 1,500 cases imported." —Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator

"Lots of plum, chocolate and rose aromas. Licorice and cloves too. Very subtle yet rich. Full-bodied, very fine and balanced. Lovely firm and silky mouthfeel. It still needs some bottle age to soften but is already long and beautiful. Elegant. Drink or hold." —JamesSuckling.com

"Saturated ruby. Spicy, intensely perfumed cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by vanilla, potpourri and an exotic Indian spice quality. Smooth, round and concentrated, offering sweet, focused red and dark berry compote flavors lifted by juicy acidity. Appealingly sweet and broad on the impressively long, youthfully tannic back end, showing finishing notes of allspice, raspberry and bitter chocolate. Drinking window: 2020 - 2027." —Josh Raynolds, Vinous
