"Bright cherry colour with some violet nuances. In the nose, red berries aromas remain over the oaky and balsamic notes from its ageing in wood. It shows an elegance in the mouth, yet very lively, with some spice back notes and a very balanced acidity." —winemaker

Blend: 80% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, 10% Mazuelo

Wine Anthology review:
The Rioja Crianza from CVNE is also this iconic producer's first wine. After undergoing several name changes over the years – from "Clarete" to "Tercer Año" – the Crianza name became permanent, reflecting its 2+ years of aging before release. A classic Riojan blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Mazuelo, the 2012 Crianza earns style points for its super aromatic nose of blackcurrant, cherries, and espresso bean. With a well-integrated hint of oak to complement the polished fruit flavors, this delicious wine plays with all of its elements right in the pocket.
"Cherry and vanilla flavors mingle with leafy and spicy details in this round red. Orange peel acidity, cedar and tobacco notes give this a traditional accent. Drink now through 2025." —Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator

"A wine that is extremely popular in Spain is the 2012 Cune Crianza, the usual Tempranillo-based blend with 15% Garnacha Tinta and Mazuelo matured in oak barrels for one year. The nose starts with notes of creamy oak that soon give way to aromas of ripe berries, blackcurrants and plums that are quite spicy and showy (revealing hints from both American and French oak) with a fresh, herbal, raspberry leaf touch. The palate is light to medium-bodied, polished and soft, with unnoticeable tannins and very well-integrated oak. It is easy to drink and to understand by the wide audience. A very good commercial Rioja, it is approachable now, but will also keep. This is bottled in different lots as the market requires, and was about to be bottled when I tasted it. A whopping 4.5 million bottles of this wine are produced." —Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate

"This is always fresh and fruity with balance plus dried strawberries, cherries and cedar. Full to medium body, light tannins and a clean finish. Drink now." —
