The 2004 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon presents a deep, dark violet color with reddish hues. The nose offers intense, focused aromas of ripe cassis and black currant fruit intertwined with notes of tobacco, cedar, and a touch of eucalyptus. The mouthfeel is full and concentrated with layers of rich black berry flavors and elements of frosted mint, espresso and graphite.

Dark and juicy, with lots of fig, blackberry and currant fruit layered with dark licorice, spice cake and cocoa notes. The long, solid finish has nice drive. Drink now through 2009. —J.M.
'The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon which was aged for 12 months in 80% French oak of which 30% was new, and 20% new American oak. Deep garnet in color, it delivers notes of wood smoke, pencil lead, cassis, black currants, and blackberry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, elegantly styled Cabernet with nicely layered black fruits and hints of eucalyptus as well as espresso in the background. The tannins are well-integrated and should permit several years of development in the bottle. However, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 10-12 years.'Jay Miller.
