"A deep color, almost ink. A fine nose of red berries of wood and peppery notes, cinnamon and roasted, nearly empyreumatic. A suave, powerful mouthfeel, on the cherry and strawberry. Silky tannins and a subtle balance between sweetness and freshness. The wood is perfectly integrated. Potential: 20 years." —winemaker

Blend: 78% Grenache, 13% Syrah, 9% Mourvèdre

Wine Anthology review:
Coming right out of the gate with scents of black raspberry, rain-soaked flowers, Asian spices, and underbrush, the 2012 Val de Dieu ("Valley of God") Châteauneuf-du-Pape doesn't pull any punches when it comes to aromatic concentration. Its voluptuous mouthfeel, replete with notions of cocoa powder, licorice, and rich cassis, features an imposing structure with well-integrated acidity and ultra-fine tannin. In short, Val de Dieu is what Châteauneuf-du-Pape is all about!
"A knockout bottle of wine, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Val de Dieu is made from 78% Grenache, 13% Syrah and 9% Mourvedre, is completely destemmed, and aged 18 months in new demi-muid, of which every trace is soaked up. Showing fabulous sweetness and purity on the nose, with black raspberry, black cherry liqueur, crushed flowers, white pepper and hints of licorice, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, solid mid-palate depth and ultra-fine tannin. I think it will age beautifully, but given its polish and seamlessness, it’s a superb drink even now." —Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

"Featuring a gorgeous mouthfeel from the start, this caresses with silky layers of crushed fig, blackberry and black cherry fruit while notes of black tea, Black Forest cake and ganache fill in the background. The graphite-fueled finish is sneakily long. A beauty. Best from 2016 through 2027. 200 cases imported." —James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

"Inky ruby. Ripe cherry and black raspberry on the highly perfumed nose, with a suave floral element adding complexity. Fleshy and seamless on the palate, offering pliant red and dark berry flavors and hints of vanilla and smoky minerals. Closes smooth, sappy and very long, with excellent clarity and spicy lift. This very well-balanced wine possesses the balance to age but also abundant upfront fruit to make it quite appealing now. Drinking window: 2018 - 2025." —Josh Raynolds, Vinous
