The 2005 Kasler Nies’chen Riesling Spatlese displays a heady nose of ripe peach, cranberry, honey, botrytis spice, and wet stone. Creamy, relatively soft, but undeniably concentrated on the palate, it hints of caramelized peach and quince preserves in an impressively rich if rather round and overtly sweet finish. A touch of tart red berry adds an offsetting note to the sweetness, but botrytis has robbed this of some clarity.
