Turley Wine Cellars Del Barba Vineyard Zinfandel 2021

Size: 750ml

"New in 2021! After working with the fruit for over a decade, Turkey is proud to present the first single-vineyard bottling for Turley from the Del Barba Vineyard. Contra Costa is a delta where the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers meet, and these head-trained vines are planted in deep dehli blow sand, made up of decomposed granite coming down from the Sierra Mountains. The resulting wine embodies the best the delta has to offer: silken textures, ultra fine tannin, and dark saline fruits." —winemaker

"The Del Barba Vineyard fruit, from vines planted around 40 years ago, used to be incorporated into the Duarte wine. This is the first time it has been bottled on its own, winemaker Tegan Passalacqua explains. Turley lost one of its older vineyard sources in Contra Costa County to new home development—a common occurrence in California and why producers who work with the state's oldest vines are so crucial to saving them. Medium ruby in color, the 2021 Zinfandel Del Barba Vineyard opens its scents of red cherry and blackberry over several minutes in the glass, plus hints of vanilla and earth. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and fresh with perfumed fruit and a long, floral finish. It's elegant but youthfully coiled and will benefit from 2-3 years in bottle." —Wine Advocate

"The 2021 Zinfandel Del Barba emerges from a site that formerly was used for the Duarte bottling. Bright and punchy, with gorgeous purity, the 2021 is positively stellar. Bright red/purplish Zinfandel fruit, blood orange and exotic spice abound. This is such a compelling wine. With a projected price around $30 a bottle, the 2021 hugely overdelivers." —Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"This easy drinking red wine is a modern expression of the spices discovered on the 'Spice Route' by Portuguese explorers in 1498. These explores opened up the Western world to exciting new flavors such as nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and pepper. The wine has extraordinary, rich flavors born of Portugal’s indigenous grapes and unique terrain. Intense, deep ruby color, with a bright red rim. The predominant flavors are ripe, cooked black fruits. Sweet notes of vanilla and hints of mocha. The first impression in the mouth is rich and full. Excellent balance of tannins and acidity, with a long, smooth finish." —winemaker

"It presents great aromatic intensity with fresh fruit such as plums and blackberries. Elegance and freshness characterize this wine with an elegant, harmonious and gastronomic profile. A great choice for a daily wine." —winemaker

Wine Anthology Team Review-I have always told my customers that the best "dollar for quality" ratio can usually be found in Portugal and this particular bottle exemplifies this perfectly. From the region of Alentejano, these grapes were stored and vinified at low temperatures in order to preserve all the intense aromas and flavors found here. An absolute steal for this money. A must try!!

"Spice Road is an intense red wine that highlights the most important spices traded during the Portuguese voyages of discovery, which are now found all around the world. This blended red, which is an opaque ruby color, has intense aromas of well-ripened black fruit and notes of dark chocolate and spices." —winemaker

"Silk & Spice is a tribute to the spirit of adventure shown by the Portuguese navigators who explored the globe in the 15th century and discovered the commercial silk and spice routes. Silk Route celebrates its namesake and is a smooth, ruby-colored red wine with aromas of red fruit, white chocolate and vanilla. Thanks to the art of blending wines, the native grape varieties and Portugal's unique terroir, this wine has a finish that is both silky and smooth." —winemaker
