Quinta do Crasto Douro Tinto 2016

"Deep ruby in colour with very ripe red fruit aromas. Very fruity on the palate, with good structure and light tannins which make it a very pleasant wine." —winemaker

"The 2016 Tinto, in bottle about four months when seen, is a roughly equal blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, with a dollop of Tinta Barroca. About 5% of the blend was aged in used French oak for six months, the rest in tank. It comes in at 13.2% alcohol. This is always a super value, fruity yet structured and able to age. The 2015 might be a little more exuberant and better structured, while this might have a little more concentration. Winemaker Manuel Lobo thinks in the long run that this will be better, but they are pretty close. Don't underestimate the ability of this to age, by the way. It will go at least 10 years, but 15 might be more likely. Tomas Roquette pointed out that the 2003 was still drinking well, and it lacked this 2016's freshness. That said, the peak for this might be 2019-2024. We'll see how much it develops, as opposed to just holding." —Wine Advocate
