MacMurray Estate Vineyards Winemaker's Block Pinot Noir 2014

"An elegant expression of our finest vineyard blocks in the Russian River Valley. Silky and smooth, the wine showcases the complexity and depth one can coax from Pinot Noir grown in an exceptional, cool-climate region. Pommard Clone grapes from Block R02 on our Del Rio Ranch Vineyard and T09 on our MacMurray Ranch Vineyard provided the backbone and structure for this wine. Calera Clone and 828 from Laguna Ranch Block L07 lent the wine its alluring, dark cherry characteristics." —winemaker

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Winemaker’s Block was aged nine months in French oak, of which about 30-35% were new casks. This is another impressive wine made from only five clones: Pommard, Swan and the Dijon selections 667, 777 and 115. The wine has a deep ruby/plum/purple color, a good, sweet kiss of blackcurrants and black cherries, ripe tannin, adequate acidity and a medium to full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel. It is a relatively big Pinot at 14.9% finished alcohol and limited in availability, with just under 500 cases produced. It should drink well for up to a decade." —Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

"Lots of blue fruit and granite aromas and flavors. Hints of white pepper. Full body, medium tannins and a fruity finish. Reserved and cool. Needs to mellow with a few years of bottle age. Drink in 2019." —

"Velvety, robust structure makes way for a textured, complex personality of baked plum, rhubarb and cola spice. That spice continues in lengthy spikes of clove and cinnamon, providing a warmth that complements and accents the concentration." —Wine Enthusiast Magazine
