Chappellet Vineyard Pritchard Hill

"Chappellet’s Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is the ultimate expression of the dedication and expertise of our winegrowing team. Like the great Bordeaux wines that first inspired Donn Chappellet, this wine is crafted in the traditional manner by blending Cabernet Sauvignon with other classic Bordeaux varietals. The wine ages 18 months in 100% new French oak and six months in bottle prior to release. Grown exclusively on our rocky, mountainside vineyards, Chappellet’s Cabernets have proven their ability to cellar age for several decades." -Winery

"Deep and complex notes of blackberry preserves and dark cherry layer with an abundance of sweet oak and spice. Elements of licorice, cedar and smoke mingle with the fruit, creating a synergy of enticing aromas. Concentrated flavors of sun-soaked red and black fruit, cola and roasted coffee envelop the palate and flow through the finish. This is a wine of monumental size and concentration worthy of patient cellaring." -Winemaker's Notes

Continuum Red 2010

"2010 has a deep red robe, black highlights and a vibrant purple rim. Primary aromas of black cherry, tar, dark rose petal and truffle develop greater nuance as the wine breathes, revealing peppercorn, blackberry, red ginger and cardamom. On the palate, ripe plum and wild cherry fruit align with silky tannins and a rich velvety texture. The finish is full yet supple, with flavors reminiscent of a freshly pulled double espresso. The 2010 is wonderfully savory offering ripe black fruits, a long finish and quite a complex set of textures and flavors. Decant and enjoy today or cellar for 15 to 20 years." —winemaker

"The 2012 Insignia has an inky dark hue and aromas of ripe blackberries, star anise, cigarbox, clove and sweet mocha notes. Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc

Wine Anthology review:
The 2012 Insignia is built like a linebacker, with a core of muscular blackberry suffused with thick smoke, fresh-brewed espresso, and rich oak. Still very young, this wine goes for the gusto right now with a spread of lush tannin on the finish, giving clear indication that this is destined for the cellar before its full beauty has bloomed. Simply put, this is a treasure chest whose contents grow richer with age.

Masseto 2013

"Masseto 2013 is the result of an overall late and fresh climate during the harvesting period. These are particularly favorable conditions for Merlot, which was able to ripen slowly and completely in sunny weather, without excessive heat, which enhanced a full expression of the aromatic qualities and perfect ripening of the polyphenolic content. Intense ruby in colour, the nose immediately reveals fully ripe fruitiness endowed with great freshness and complexity, underlined by delicate notes of vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is substantial and rich, with great density, and a rare tannic quality of silkiness and smoothness. Black fruit aromas are accompanied by a strong note of freshness and a long, elegant finish, which is prolonged with a delicate hint of cocoa." —winemaker

Melka Metisse 2006

The 2006 Metisse is a somewhat softer, more up-front version of the 2005, with a dark ruby/purple color, dense, concentrated, rich fruit flavors, real style and elegance, and serious power and richness with supple tannins, low acidity, yet a graceful mouthfeel with tremendous purity and length. This is a beauty. The 2005 will be at its best over the next two decades. The 2006 should drink well when released and evolve for 15 or more years. Some other good news is that Philippe Melka is now making around 200 cases of St.-Emilion from a vineyard just below Beausejour-Becot.

Philippe Melka’s 500 cases of wine originate now from a vineyard located off the back streets of St. Helena, not far from the Benchland vineyards of Spottswoode.

Rocca di Frassinello Le Sughere Maremma 2008

"The 2008 Le Sughere di Frassinello is 50% Sangioveto, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is one of the more refined, elegant wines I have tasted from this emerging property in Gavorrano. Layers of ripe dark fruit emerge in a silky, refined style that is utterly irresistible. Mint, flowers and spices follow, adding further complexity, while a final burst of juiciness has the last say on the finish. This isn’t the biggest wine Rocca di Frassinello has made, but I am deeply impressed by the classiness and length of the regal finish. As always, I recommend the estate’s wines be opened at least 30 minutes in advance, which seems to help the aromatics of these wines find their center. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022." -Antonio Galloni
