Catena Zapata Nicolas

"The flagship, the 2007 Nicolas Catena Zapata, a blend of 70% CabernetSauvignon, 20% Malbec, and the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It delivers an enthralling aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, espresso, mocha, incense, lavender, black currant, blackcherry, and blackberry. This leads to a full-bodied, powerful yetelegant effort with great depth and volume, precision balance, and avoluptuous personality (a D-cup of a wine). It conceals plenty ofstructure and will effortlessly evolve for 6-8 years, drinking wellthrough 2032 if not longer." -Jay Miller

Chateau Pavie 2016

"Château Pavie has diverse terroirs: 1.) Terroir typical of the Saint-Emilion limestone plateau composed of clay-limestone soil on an asteriated limestone subsoil. Located at an altitude of approximately 85 meters above the Dordogne River. 2.) Terroir called "milieu de côte" (middle of the slope) located approximately 55 meters above the Dordogne and composed of very fine brown limestone. Many plots have been re-planted. The vines are trained high to increase the leaf canopy. Pruned to six spurs for old vines and two for young ones, green harvesting, leaf thinning, as well as picking and sorting by hand. The way Château Pavie is fermented depends on the vintage. It is kept on the skins for three weeks in 20 temperature-controlled wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation in barrel and the wine is aged, depending on the vintages in 70% to 100% new oak, for 18 - 32 months." —winemaker

Opus One 2016

"The 2016 Opus One is remarkably elegant and bright offering sumptuous aromas of fresh red and blue fruit, baking spices and vanilla, and a delicate fragrance of spring florals. The initial bouquet is augmented by more nuanced notes of sage, rosemary, and black olive. Juicy flavors of black cherry, blackberry and cassis flood the palate and creamy, fine-grained tannins deliver a delightfully round structure. Harmonious and lively, the flavors linger to create an enduring finish with touches of dark chocolate and espresso." —winemaker

Penfolds Bin 170 Kalimna Vineyard Shiraz 2010

"Color: A black core with a barely visible purple rim.
Nose: Classic Kalimna, with trademark red fruits and a familial old-worldliness. Juniper and blackberry fruits, and raspberry stick and red liquorice flavourings. A carbon black 'sumpiness'/quince paste amalgam laced with a ferric/formic piquant lift. Possibly oak-induced, barrel-fermented eugenol/pink peppercorn/fresh green-tobacco aromatics.
Palate: Viscous, Velvety, Voluminous. (Editors note: the BOLD V is deliberate) A 'tannin tsunami'… riding a ripe and even wave across the palate. Oak totally absorbed, allowing blueberry fruits and a black-pudding textural imprint to stake ownership during this phase. An energetic tension impatiently awaiting to be… unleashed, tamed?! Commands attention, requests little, appreciates your patience." —winemaker

Penfolds Bin 620 Cabernet Shiraz 2008

"Deep and generous red with a dark core. This wine instantly proclaims Penfolds...and then, naturally Coonawarra! An aromatic color chart reveals red, rather than blue or black fruits. Also red licorice, black olive. Hovering above — wafts of tomato, quince, and cabernet paste meshed with cinnamon and nutmeg yeast-bun spices. Swirling and time in glass reveal fresh, bright beetroot and star-anise/soy Asian artefact. Exotic, with barely-discernible oak (French?) at least offering one recognizable sensory hook. Although flavors of cola, sarsaparilla and white chocolate are immediately apparent, it is the structure and textural weave that impact. At once, it is tight, focused, and poised. A multi-dimensional continuum, difficult to de-construct." —winemaker

Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

"The 2014 vintage opens with an aromatic wave of deep, intense fruit and spices such as black plum, blackberry pie filling, cassis, and anise, along with nutmeg, dark toast, and dried rose petals. The energy in the nose is just as dramatic in the mouth with open, beautiful ripeness, mocha, briar fruit, pomegranate, baking spice, and ripe tannins that collectors will recognize as offering the promise of sensational things to come in the cellar." —winemaker
