Francois Pinon Vouvray Silex Noir 2017

"100% Chenin Blanc. Silex Noir is named for the black-flint soils characteristic of two parcels totalling 3.7 hectares that go into this bottling. These sites lie on hilly south-southeast-exposed terrain, below the plateau of cooler clay soils above from whence comes Pinon's Trois Argiles bottling, but with the same underpinning of classic Vouvray tuffeau (chalky limestone) about a meter and half down. The Silex Noir vines are sunnier and warmer and more humid; botrytis tends to develop here, so harvest here happens ahead of the Trois Argiles. The vines average 40 years old.
