Dom Perignon Brut Limited Edition by Lenny Kravitz 2008

"Lenny Kravitz brings his legendary creativity to an inspired vintage champagne with this special bottle. Re-imagining Dom Pérignon’s shield label in hammered metal, the musician and designer creates a uniquely contemporary vibe. Kravitz invites people to come together through his designs. Louis Roederer Cristal Brut 2008

"Amber hue with green and orange tints. Fine, even and lively sparkle. Complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, Williams pear, pollen and toasted almond. The delicately seductive bouquet shows intensity and well-honed precision. The wine is powerful, full yet tight, on entry to the palate. The 2008 is undeniably well structured but in a particular way: the wine’s almost saline concentration has not been created by the sun, but is derived from the dryness of the chalk soil in a particularly cool summer. The result is a smooth, almost liquorous, mouthfeel that coats the palate with a powerful yet soft texture. This gives way to an incredible finish, underpinned by freshness and an impression of absolute purity with a taut and very saline character. The Cristal 2008 is deep, intense and masterful. It offers the quintessential reflection of its chalk soils which lend it is velvety texture and delicate tension. This wine’s energy has been tamed by an unusually long period of bottle ageing: Cristal 2008 was in fact aged for 10 years before its release on the market. A first!" —winemaker

Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon 2008

"The opening bouquet is complex and luminous, a mingling of white flowers, citrus and stone fruit. The overall effect is enhanced by the freshness of aniseed and crushed mint. The final aromas offered by the wine are starting to show spicy, woody and roasted notes. After a long period of reluctance, the wine is finally opening up. There is complete balance between the nose and the palate. Its slender, minimalist, pure, toned, athletic character is now also expressed with warmth. The fruit is pronounced and clear. The vintage's characteristic acidity is remarkably well integrated. Its persistence is mainly aromatic, grey, smoky and highly promising. The wine enjoys duality: warmth & freshness, meat & iodine pairings, cooked & raw. Spices enhance and accentuate 2008’s effervescence and densify the wine. Dom Pérignon likes playful experiences: culinary art, textures, and matters." —winemaker

Musella Amarone "Senza Titolo" 2008

"This wine is born from the idea of producing Amarone in the most natural and traditional way possible, starting first from a rigorous grape selection. The second selection is done at the moment of pressing, 100 days after the harvest, when four or five people discard the single grapes if not perfectly healthy. The soft pressing is done by feet, leaving the dry stems in to increase tannin, and the fermentation is with indigenous yeasts in a conical oak  fermenting vat. We do daily pressing by hand until the natural slowing of the fermentation after a few months. This wine rests at least 3 years in a 700L barrel. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered." —winemaker

Penfolds Bin 620 Cabernet Shiraz 2008

"Deep and generous red with a dark core. This wine instantly proclaims Penfolds...and then, naturally Coonawarra! An aromatic color chart reveals red, rather than blue or black fruits. Also red licorice, black olive. Hovering above — wafts of tomato, quince, and cabernet paste meshed with cinnamon and nutmeg yeast-bun spices. Swirling and time in glass reveal fresh, bright beetroot and star-anise/soy Asian artefact. Exotic, with barely-discernible oak (French?) at least offering one recognizable sensory hook. Although flavors of cola, sarsaparilla and white chocolate are immediately apparent, it is the structure and textural weave that impact. At once, it is tight, focused, and poised. A multi-dimensional continuum, difficult to de-construct." —winemaker

Rocca di Frassinello Le Sughere Maremma 2008

"The 2008 Le Sughere di Frassinello is 50% Sangioveto, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is one of the more refined, elegant wines I have tasted from this emerging property in Gavorrano. Layers of ripe dark fruit emerge in a silky, refined style that is utterly irresistible. Mint, flowers and spices follow, adding further complexity, while a final burst of juiciness has the last say on the finish. This isn’t the biggest wine Rocca di Frassinello has made, but I am deeply impressed by the classiness and length of the regal finish. As always, I recommend the estate’s wines be opened at least 30 minutes in advance, which seems to help the aromatics of these wines find their center. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022." -Antonio Galloni
