Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon La Voute St Vincent 2017

"100% Gamay. The beginning of the Desvignes range is La Voûte, which comes from various parcels in the Morgon climat of Douby, which is north of the venerated climat of Côte du Py, bordering Fleurie. Douby has deeper, sandier, granitic soils and yields a more supple style of Morgon compared to Py's famously muscular one. The vines for La Voûte average 60 years old, are sustainably farmed and harvested by hand. The fruit is partly destemmed: grapes and whole clusters ferment semi-carbonically in tank. The wine is aged in concrete vats before bottling. Annual production is approximately 2000 cases, making it the largest Desvignes bottling." —importer

Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py 2017

"This is a wine to keep; its character resulting from the soil composition (The cote du Py hillside near the tiny village of Morgon). This is the most typical wine of this appellation, thanks to its rich soil of blue stones coming from the disintegration of schist. The Morgon « Côte du Py » is full bodied and tannic. A wine to keep. The long maceration of the whole grape results in a powerful wine which improves over the years, giving a ripe stone-fruit fragrance on the nose like kirsch. Bottled in spring, it is necessary to be patient for it to develop its full potential." —winemaker
