Jurtschitsch Loiserberg Erste Lage Gruner Veltliner 2021

Size: 750ml

James Suckling: 93, Wine Advocate: 92

"In our vineyards in the south-eastern part of the Langenlois Loiserberg, Veltliner-vines are rooted deeply in mica slate interspersed with loess. Hand-picked grapes were carefully transformed into wine and matured in our 700-year-old natural cellar in large wooden barrels. The very steep and meager terraces of the Loiserberg vineyard provide the best conditions for an ideal Grüner Veltliner with a distinct character, deep fruitiness and an elegant style." —winemaker

"Full nose of pomelo with hints of basil and fresh butter. The rock-solid base of candied-citrus character is married to wet-stone freshness on the generous palate. Healthy tannins firm up the long finish very nicely. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap." —James Suckling

"The 2021 Ried Loiserberg 1ÖTW Grüner Veltliner shows prominent lactic notes, and in the background, orange aromas appear. The palate seems quite quaffable at first, but then it turns out to be powerful and distinctive, even a bit phenolic, but without being bitter. Overall, it's a juicy, quite complex and persistent Veltliner from the loess-covered crystalline rocks of the rather cool Loiserberg. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in Grafenegg in September 2022." —Wine Advocate

"An expressive burst of aromas of deep dark fruits lead into layered tones of lifted red fruit and a soft, luscious mid-palate. A juicy, vibrant entry with notes of black cherry, black raspberry, fig, baking spice and fresh Santa Rosa plum, is interwoven with supple, textured tannins and acidity on the long, complex finish." —winemaker
